Privacy policy

  1. Who we are. WattPeer benchmarks Australian energy bills. Contact: jaco.veldsman@gmail.com.
  2. What we collect. Bill facts you type in (retailer, plan name if you know it, postcode, billing period, kWh, total paid, supply charge if given), your email if you unlock benchmarks, and an optional bill PDF if you choose verification. If you upload a PDF just to pre-fill the form, we read the billing numbers off it and don't keep the file — it is only stored if you separately choose verification. We never ask for your name, address or NMI; if a PDF contains them we do not extract them.
  3. Why we collect it. To (a) benchmark your bill against plans and other bills, (b) build anonymous aggregate statistics we publish, (c) send you rate-change alerts you asked for. We ask for consent naming these purposes when you contribute.
  4. What we publish. Only aggregates over at least 30 bills per segment, rounded. Never an individual bill.
  5. Storage. Cloudflare (D1/R2, encrypted at rest). Verification PDFs auto-delete after 90 days, or immediately from your data page. To read the numbers off a PDF we send its text to OpenAI's API (not used for training, not kept by us); we only ever extract the billing fields — never your name, address or NMI. No third-party analytics on bill data.
  6. Access & deletion. Your data page (the private link shown when you contribute — save it) lists your contributions; delete any or all instantly. Aggregates recompute without them.
